Sie ist gro\u00df und strahlend und sch\u00f6n\u201c \u2013 Worte, gesprochen von Neil Armstrong nach der Mondlandung von Apollo 11 im Jahr 1969. In diesem Wintersemester wollen wir den Blick in entgegengesetzter Richtung von der Erde in den Himmel werfen. Dabei werden wir uns mit astronomischen Grundfragen auseinandersetzen. Wir gehen auf physikalische Grundlagen ein und besch\u00e4ftigen uns unter anderem mit sogenannten Exoplaneten, den Planeten au\u00dferhalb unseres Sonnensystems. Zudem versuchen wir, einen Eindruck davon zu bekommen, wie Weltraumforschung<br>funktioniert, wie Astronauten ausgebildet werden und arbeiten. Auch aus historischer bzw. sozialer Perspektive wollen<br>wir den Sternenhimmel betrachten und nachvollziehen, wo die Anf\u00e4nge der Astronomie liegen und wie sich diese \u00fcber die<br>Jahrhunderte ver\u00e4ndert hat. In diesem Sinne freue ich mich sehr, Sie im Schmittmann-Kolleg willkommen zu hei\u00dfen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>1. Vortrag: Exoplaneten, Maria Melamed, Mi, 23.10.2024, 19:00 Uhr<\/em><br>Maria Melamed ist Doktorandin an der Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakult\u00e4t im Bereich Astrophysik in<br>K\u00f6ln. In der Arbeitsgruppe von Prof. Dr. Eckhart setzt sie sich unter anderem mit schwarzen L\u00f6chern und Galaxien<br>auseinander. Unter Exoplaneten versteht man Planeten, die au\u00dferhalb unseres Sonnensystems liegen. Maria Melamed<br>wird uns anhand eines interaktiven Vortrags erkl\u00e4ren, wie man diese finden kann und anschlie\u00dfend f\u00fcr all unsere Fragen offenstehen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2. Vortrag: Geschichte der Astronomie, Dr. Martin Faber, Do, 14.11.2024, 19:00 Uhr<\/em><br>Dr. Martin Faber ist Privatdozent an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universit\u00e4t in Freiburg. Neben der polnischen Geschichte und der Geschichte der fr\u00fchen Neuzeit z\u00e4hlt die Geschichte der Naturwissenschaften und der Astronomie zu seinen Forschungsschwerpunkten, in die er uns einen Einblick geben wird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Schmittiefahrt, 28.11.-01.12.<\/em><br>Das Ziel unserer Schmittiefahrt ist der Nationalpark Eifel \/ Vogelsang. Dort wird Harald Bardenhagen von der Astronomiewerkstatt \u201eSterne ohne Grenzen\u201c eine Sternenwanderung mit uns unternehmen. Dar\u00fcber hinaus werden wir die ehemalige nationalsozialistische Ordensburg und heutige Gedenkst\u00e4tte in Vogelsang besuchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Zeiss-Planetarium Bochum, So, 15.12.2024, 15:00 Uhr<\/em><br>Kurz vor Weihnachten besuchen wir im Zeiss-Planetarium eine etwa einst\u00fcndige Show, die den Namen \u201efaszinierendes<br>Weltall\u201c tr\u00e4gt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>F\u00fchrung DLR Di, 14.01.2025, 14:00 Uhr<\/em><br>Das Deutsche Zentrum f\u00fcr Luft- und Raumfahrt sowie die Europ\u00e4ische Weltraumorganisation ESA befinden sich<br>in K\u00f6ln. Dort werden wir an einer etwa 2,5-st\u00fcndigen F\u00fchrung durch die Institute f\u00fcr Raumfahrtmedizin, Solarforschung,<br>Weltraumexperimente sowie durch das europ\u00e4ische Astronautenzentrum teilnehmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Text on the flyer in English:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear Schmitties, dear Alumni, dear Friends,<br>\u201cI am looking at our earth. It is large and radiant and beautiful\u201d \u2013 these words have been spoken by Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 mission after having landed on the moon in 1969. This winter semester, we will take a look into the opposite<br>direction \u2013 from the earth to the sky. We will deal with basic astronomical questions. We will look at physical principles and, among others, learn about exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system. Furthermore, we will get an impression of how space research works, how astronauts are trained and how they work. Moreover, we consider the starry sky from a historical and cultural perspective to understand where astronomy began and how its perception has changed over the centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>1. Lecture: Exoplanets, Maria Melamed, Wed, 23.10.2024, 07:00 PM<\/em><br>Maria Melamed is a PhD student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the field of astrophysics in Cologne. Being a member of Prof. Dr. Eckhart&#8217;s working group her research is concerned with black holes and galaxies. Exoplanets are planets outside our solar system. Maria Melamed will explain in an interactive lecture how to find them and will be then available to answer all our questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>2. Lecture: History of Astronomy, Dr. Martin Faber, Thu, 14.11.2024, 07:00 PM<\/em><br>Dr. Martin Faber is a private lecturer at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg. In addition to Polish history and the history of the early modern period his research focuses on the history of natural sciences and astronomy, on which he will give us some insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Schmittie Trip, 28.11. \u2013 01.12.2024<\/em><br>The destination of our Schmittie trip is the Eifel National Park \/ Vogelsang. Harald Bardenhagen from the astronomy<br>workshop \u201cSterne ohne Grenzen\u201d will take us on a star hike.
